For most users, automatic discovery (SSDP) works like magic. But for power users—those on complex home networks, using VPNs, or managing developers setups—manual connection is often a necessity. In version 1.2.3, we've made manual management permanent and painless with Disk-Based Caching and Persistent Storage.
The Problem with Temporary Connections
Previously, if you manually added a Roku by its IP address, that connection was tied to the current session. If you restarted your PC or reopened the app, you had to re-type that string of numbers. While simple, it was a point of friction that shouldn't exist in a premium utility.
Enter: The Saved Devices List
In version 1.2.3, any Roku you connect to—whether discovered automatically or entered manually—stays in your Saved Devices list. The next time you open QuickRemote, your favorite Roku is just a single click away. No scanning, no typing, just instant control.
Disk-Based Metadata Caching
Beyond just IP addresses, v1.2.3 now caches your Roku's channel list and icons directly to your local drive. This means that even if your network is being sluggish, the QuickRemote interface loads instantly with all your apps and icons ready to go. We've moved from "wait for network" to "load from disk, update in background."
Reliability for VPN and Pro Users
If you're using a VPN on your Windows machine, automatic discovery is often blocked by the secure tunnel. With persistent manual IPs, you can set your Roku's address once and never think about it again. QuickRemote will remember exactly where your TV is, allowing you to bypass the discovery hurdles every single time.
Managing Your Saved List
We've also added a dedicated management interface on the connection screen. Want to "forget" a device or delete a manual IP that's no longer in use? Just click the delete icon next to any entry in your Saved Devices list. It’s clean, it’s simple, and it puts you in control of your network topology.
