One of the biggest challenges in designing a remote control for a desktop computer is managing space. While a physical remote has limited surface area, a computer screen has plenty—but that doesn't mean you want a massive window cluttering your workspace. In version 1.2.2, we’ve solved the "long remote" problem with a brand-new **Tabbed Interface**.
Why Tabs?
In previous versions, as we added more features—like media controls, number pads, and channel shortcuts—the app window became increasingly tall. This forced users to scroll down just to reach the play button or switch a channel. That’s not efficient.
In v1.2.2, we’ve segmented the app into three distinct, non-scrolling tabs:
- Roku: The core remote experience. D-pad navigation, media controls (play/pause), volume, and power.
- Channels: Your entire list of installed Roku channels. Search and launch your favorite apps instantly.
- Inputs: Specifically for Roku TV users. Switch between HDMI 1, HDMI 2, Live TV, and AV inputs with a single click.
The Benefits of a Zero-Scroll Design
By moving to a tabbed layout, we’ve achieved two major goals:
- Speed: You always know exactly where a button is. No more hunting through a vertical list.
- Compact Footprint: The app window stays small and unobtrusive, perfect for keeping in the corner of your screen while you work or browse.
New: Direct Input Controls
If you have a Roku TV (like TCL, Hisense, or Onn), you know that switching inputs via the standard home screen can be a few too many clicks. The new Inputs tab puts HDMI shortcuts directly on your desktop. Switch from your PC input to your game console or cable box instantly.
Never Lose Your Remote Again: Remote Finder
We’ve all been there—plunging our hands into the couch cushions searching for the physical remote while the movie is already playing. If you have a compatible Roku remote (like the Voice Remote Pro or the remote included with Roku Ultra), QuickRemote for Windows has a new Remote Finder button.
Located right next to the power button in the main menu, the Find button triggers the built-in speaker on your physical remote. It will start beeping immediately, leading you right to it. It’s a small addition that makes a huge difference in your daily setup.
How to Update
If you already have QuickRemote installed, Windows will automatically update the app through the Microsoft Store. If you don't see the new tabs yet, you can manually check for updates in the Store app under "Library".
