We've all been there: you're just trying to find something to watch on Netflix or the Roku Channel, and suddenly a loud trailer starts playing automatically. It's distracting, annoying, and can wake up others in the house. Fortunately, Roku provides a way to turn this off.
1. Navigating to Home Screen Settings
From your Roku home screen, scroll down to Settings and then select Home Screen. This menu controls how the main interface looks and behaves.
2. Disabling Audio and Video Previews
Inside the Home Screen settings, find the option for Audio Guide or Auto-Play Previews. On most modern Roku devices, there are two specific toggles:
- Audio Guide: Controls the voice that reads menu items aloud.
- Auto-Play Previews: Controls whether trailers start playing automatically when you hover over a channel.
3. The Peace and Quiet Factor
Once you toggle Auto-Play Previews to "Off," you can browse your favorite streaming services in peace. You'll still see thumbnails and descriptions, but the videos won't play until you actually click on them.
4. Channel-Specific Settings
Note that some individual apps like Netflix or YouTube have their own auto-play settings within their respective account menus. If you still hear trailers inside a specific app, you may need to visit that app's internal settings to disable them there as well.
